The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is somewhat of a gamble at the current time, so you might envision that there would be little affinity for patronizing Zimbabwe's gambling halls. In reality, it seems to be working the opposite way, with the desperate market circumstances creating a bigger desire to wager, to try and locate a fast win, a way out of the problems.

For many of the locals subsisting on the meager local earnings, there are two common forms of gambling, the national lotto and Zimbet. Just as with almost everywhere else on the planet, there is a state lotto where the probabilities of winning are extremely tiny, but then the jackpots are also extremely big. It's been said by financial experts who look at the idea that the lion's share don't buy a card with an actual expectation of hitting. Zimbet is built on either the domestic or the British football leagues and involves determining the outcomes of future games.

Zimbabwe's gambling dens, on the other shoe, pander to the astonishingly rich of the state and travelers. Until recently, there was a very large sightseeing business, based on nature trips and visits to Victoria Falls. The economic woes and associated conflict have cut into this market.

Amongst Zimbabwe's gambling dens, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has 5 gaming tables and slots, and the Plumtree gambling hall, which has only slots. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has only slot machines. Mutare contains the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, both of which contain gaming tables, one armed bandits and electronic poker machines, and Victoria Falls has the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, each of which have gaming machines and tables.

In addition to Zimbabwe's gambling halls and the above mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is considerably like a pools system), there is a total of two horse racing complexes in the country: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the second city) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Seeing as that the economy has diminished by more than forty percent in the past few years and with the associated poverty and crime that has come to pass, it is not known how well the sightseeing industry which is the foundation for Zimbabwe's gambling halls will do in the near future. How many of them will carry on till conditions improve is simply not known.
