There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino betting is illegal. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, contains 150 slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that features a number of comforts on top of the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and 88 table games.
